Herb and Audry have had a near perfect relationship for over fifty years. Their daughters have not been so lucky. This anniversary, Herb has several surprises in store for his three very different daughters. This year, when the daughters return home, the parent’s weekend plans send the family into a whirlwind of revealed family secrets and conflict.
The three sisters are Daisy, the youngest, a lovely yet fragile romance novelist, prone to tears on both happy and sad occasions, Ivy, the middle sister, a high school biology teacher and part time taxidermist, and Rain, the eldest, a recently separated oncologist with two children who’s always keeps her emotions strictly in check.
Herb, having recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour, has decided not to deteriorate in the old fashioned way. His announcement that he is choosing to die on his own terms brings a range of reactions from his three daughters: Rain remains stoic, respecting her father’s decision. Ivy is furious, incensed by her father’s insensitivity and seemingly radical choice. And Daisy is a broken mess, worried that her father won’t see her at her best both emotionally and professionally before he passes. To make matters worse, Rain’s apparent apathy infuriates Ivy, and they begin an age old fight, which places Daisy in the middle of their battle while she struggles with a buried and traumatic secret.
As their daughters simultaneously grapple with one another and wrestle their own demons, their father’s fate slowly becomes a reality. The three sisters bumpily find their way back to one another, and the family unites in their shared tradition of filling a time capsule. By the end of this weekend, Daisy, Ivy and Rain will have found a way to take their first steps on a new chapter with each other, and their parents will know that their work here, at least on this plane, is done as best as it can be.
